Vanity

This table was originally conceived to be a vanity or make-up table. I had imagined it getting very little use, but is the centerpiece of a room - with a mirror hung above. As you can see, I now use it as my desk every day - and it takes a beating. It is made of curly maple, and cherry woods, with a leather insert at the top, and brass pins to hold the leather down. The legs combine the two wood species, these are turned on a lathe, and with the cherry foot detail. The skirt is made of cherry and is joined to the rounded legs with a mortise and tenon joint detail. The top appears to float, as the legs protrude above it, resting on the skirt pieces, which can’t be seen from above. The wood top is made of curly maple, with an Argentinean leather insert, and brass “clavos”. This was certainly a fun piece to design, and build.
